DeSoto Dance Academy for 2010-2011!

Company - This performance group prepares faith based routines for competition and civic performance and is offered to advanced students ages 12 yrs to adult per audition (Th, 10 June, 7:30p).  There will be extra expenses for competition fees and costumes.  Build your faith, skills, and confidence!

PraiseDanceKids - For students ages 6-9yrs, students in this class learn faith based dances with the opportunity for performing, ministering, monthly for nursing homes, Sunday Schools, etc.  There will be a charge for a performance uniform, but no other fees, as this is not a competition group.  This is the children's class of PraiseDance, for ages 10yrs to adult, which was first offered last year.  These classes add purpose and meaning to you dance!

Flamenco - This class offered, only this summer, teaches the basics of the ancient dance art of gypsies, Spanish Jews, & Moors.  Investigate this style of poise, rythms, & emotion!  Offered for students ages 10yrs to adult.

Pointe-Prepointe - Not a new class, but offered only during the summers, this short, 30 minute class is a must for Ballet 2 & 3 students to train the body and mind for precision in going onto and off the toes.  This class is beneficial in flat or pointe shoes.    

 

18 April, Sunday - Special Master Classes! 2:00–3:00 Ballet 1 & 2 students, ages 8-11yrs, and 3:00–4:30 Ballet 2 & 3 students, 12 yrs – adult. $15 per class, or $25 for both. Classes given by Melian Isotova, former student of, and later, instructor for Mrs. Pelusi. Melian Izotova currently is a principal ballerina with Charleston Ballet Theatre in South Carolina.  She started her performance career in the DFW area dancing with Metropolitan Classical Ballet.  She has danced principal roles as a guest artist for many companies around the United States including Abilene Ballet Theatre, Lakecities Ballet, Artisan Dance and Ballet Concerto.  Melian teaches a modified Vaganova style, designed to incorporate the beauty and elegance of the Russian ballet with the modern American dancer.  She has been on faculty at Desoto Dance Academy and also New World Ballet, where she served as ballet mistress for two years. Looking forward into May and June....

3-8 May, - Costume Check Week, where we ask all students to bring their costumes to class to make sure that they are completely ready for Picture Day and performances, putting them to the test while we practice in them so that there are no “issues” once on stage. And it is fun!

 

15 May, Saturday – Picture Day! Mark your calendars for this day. In a few weeks there will be a schedule posted for your class photo times as well as pricing information.

 

30 May, Sunday – Afternoon Nursing Home Performance. Details forthcoming in a few weeks.

 

31 May, Memorial Day Monday – Morning Nursing Home Performance. Details forthcoming in a few weeks. NO Monday classes this day, so you can enjoy your Memorial Day picnic!

 

4 June, Friday, 6:00-9:00p – Dress Rehearsal at the studio. Details forthcoming.

5 June, Saturday, 6:00-9:00p – our big Recital ! ! Details forthcoming. Invite family & friends!

7 June, Monday – first day of summer classes
